Mt Field.

Today we went up to Mt Field National Park.  We had intended to drive to Lake Dobson and walk to the Tarn Shelf, but it was snowing heavily and the road was slushy and boggy.  Oliver was worried his little car wouldn't make it, so in the end we parked by the side of the road and walked.

It was wonderful!  Though cold and snowy, we were rugged up, and tt was quiet and peaceful, with only the wind blowing through the treetops and the occasional car.  We didn't make it to Lake Dobson, but we have plans to go back soon with a 4WD - and a boogie board for sledding!

(Can you believe this is my first post in nearly 6 months?  I wonder if I have any readers left!)

Anniversary.

038
We walked down the cliff to Anniversary Bay.

061
We went swimming.

062
We didn't wear swimsuits.

This was the most blissful part of my summer holidays - floating in the water on my back without a care in the world.  I need to do that more often!  This year I am going to make an effort to slow my life down a bit and try to find more of those carefree moments.

Christmas.

Christmas in the north-west with Jem's family.

Bounty from Sally and Tony's garden.  They grow pretty much everything they eat, including chickens.  We took a big basket of produce home with us, including blackberries, peas, lemons, herbs, rhubarb, eggs, and one tiny zucchini.

Boxing Day at Boat Harbour, and the alpacas we saw on the way.

Christmas in Australia is in summer, but you'd never know it from these pictures.  Cradle Mountain, the day after Boxing Day.

Marina.

Taken on New Year's Eve at the marina.
Hydrangeas.

Mt Wellington.

I took these two on Christmas Day, on the way to my Christmas dinner.  I am SO lucky to be able to look up and see that mountain anywhere I happen to be.

Hobart

I went to Hobart a few weeks ago, and was blessed with glorious weather the whole time I was there.

Old & new, Hobart.
Hobart has some gorgeous buildings and some REALLY ugly ones.

Kayaks.

Death by television, Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery.
There was an exhibition in the courtyard at TMAG of works by school students, made from salvaged and recycled materials. This one was titled Death by television.

St David's Park, Hobart.
St David's Park used to be a cemetery. When it was turned into a park, all the headstones were stored away and, later, set into walls.

Hair tales.

I need a haircut.

Can anyone recommend a hairdresser in Melbourne? I'd prefer somewhere close by to my home in North Fitzroy, but I'm willing to travel for the right haircutter.

Those who know me well know how true this statement is. My regular hairdresser, Elli, lives in Hobart, and I go to see her whenever I can, but right now I just can't justify that luxury. It's killing me to have to let someone else touch my hair, but I'll just have to deal with it.

Please don't tell Elli, though...

This is the kind of style I'm after, first spied on Camille's brilliant blog:

My hair isn't as thick as hers, but it boufs up nicely with a bit of texturising spray. I really like this look because it looks versatile, easy to style (see the previous sentence!) and easy to maintain and look after myself while I'm on the road.

The model's name is Freja Beha Erichsen. Isn't she lovely!

Locked out again.

I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with my brain. I seriously think it's the medication I'm taking that's making me forget my keys all the time. I'm thinking I might have to staple my keys to my head. What do you do to remember important things?

My friend Mary reminded me of a good getting-locked-out story tonight! It was before my time, but a couple of you might have been first-hand witnesses.

"i have a good getting locked out story for you! Ixel who was an exchange student from america lived opposite me at jane and she locked herself out of her room when she went to the shower. it was morning and there was no one else around cos everyone was at breakfast. she was only in a tincy wincy wincy minute towel. and ixel was rather rotund. instead of waiting for someone to come back ixel walked into the dining hall in her itty bitty towel to get some help. very embarrassing but she was not embarrassed in the slightest. i would not have been surprised if she had done it naked. yikes!"

At least when I get locked out I'm usually not near-naked.

Now, please, let's not talk about this anymore.
