My place and yours: bedside.

My place and yours - Bedside.

I don't have a bedside table, but since I have a big bed and sleep alone, I usually have a pile of things on the unoccupied side. My latest reading material (my grandfather gave me The Doorbells of Florence for my birthday, and it's the cutest book ever), some magazines, a bottle of water, and a stripey friend. Oh, and a fox scarf hanging over my bedstead.

(This is my submission to this week's My place and yours project.)

St Kilda coffee palace.

St Kilda Coffee House

If you squint, this cloud kind of looks like a coffee cup. Maybe. How appropriate!

(this is my 100th post, yay!)

Surprises.

I have a habit of buying things online and then forgetting I did so. It's kind of fun, though - I like surprises.

Surprises in the mail.

So when this parcel arrived, I excitedly ripped into it to see what it was!

Surprises in the mail.

Four new pairs of tights! I'm already mentally flicking through my wardrobe to see what I can wear with the peachy-coloured ones.. what do you think?

Vintage kitty.

Such a cute, funny, fluffy cat!

Stark.

This week I made my first trip up to Kinglake since the February bushfires. My mother's sister and her family live up there - my cousins' homes were destroyed, as well as a couple of properties owned by my aunt and uncle.

Trees.

It's been ten months since the bushfires, and the barren landscape has been softened by regrowth and rebuilding. It's simultaneously heartbreaking, encouraging and uplifting.

Romeo e Julietta.

Romeo and Juliet.

These peacocks at Montsalvat remind me of Romeo and Juliet, or possibly Rapunzel.

Dereliction.

On the way back into Melbourne from Kinglake, we spotted a derelict old house with an overgrown garden, abandoned stoves and dead cars in the yard.

My place and yours: on the shelf.

Here's my entry for Pip's "My place and yours" project!

MP&Y 21/10/09

This week's theme is "On the shelf," and so I've photographed a garden bench that we brought into the house to use as extra shelving and seating. Isn't my pig bank cute? I found him at a trash and treasure market in Katoomba a few months ago.

You want to play along? Here's how.

Rainy streets.

Bottles and bikes.

Bikes.

Street view.

Friends.

My good friend is visiting Melbourne at the moment, and we caught up for breakfast and coffee yesterday morning.

Robin.

I found the wall decorations at Brother Baba Budan fascinating, and I covet one of those black menu boards. Anyone know where I can get one?

City.

City.

View of the city from the NGV Australia at Federation Square. I saw the Long Distance Vision photo exhibition yesterday. Really inspiring - the snapshot-style photos are exactly the sort of photographs I want to take. Get along to see it if you can - it's free and runs until 21 February.

Introduce yourselves!

So, my stats tell me that people from 20 different countries so far visit my blog. I want to know who you all are!

Who are you? Where are you from? How did you find me? What's your favourite colour? What do you want to be when you grow up?

What I've read today.

http://whativereadtoday.blogspot.com

I've created a new blog in which I will post every day, on every single book I read.

(even the embarrassing ones)

Are you a reader? What's your favourite book?

I really couldn't choose a favourite, so please don't make me. As you'll discover, I'm indiscriminate when it comes to reading material - from Degrassi, to Paul Gallico fairytales, to Booker Prize winners, to ridiculous airport thrillers, I'll read it all.

Anyway, I hope you'll join me on my literary adventures!

That address again.. http://whativereadtoday.blogspot.com
